  2. Soccer’s Popularity • Soccer is the most popular sport in Germany as well as in the rest of Europe. • Many German soccer players are well-known all throughout the world.

German Bundesliga • There are 18 teams in the Bundesliga. • It was established in 1963. • The three last place teams every year move to the 2nd Bundesliga. • Only 1 team has been in the Bundesliga every year. That is Hamburger SV. • The most successful club is Bayern Munchen (13 championships) • The German National team is chosen from the Bundesliga.

  5. Men's National Team • They have won 3 World Championchips and 3 European Championships. • They placed 2nd in the last World Cup, losing to Brazil in the finals. • They beat USA in the semifinals. • They are always regarded as a strong team in the World Cup.

  6. Women's National Team • The Women’s National Team hasn’t been around quite as long as the men’s. • But they have already won a World Championship. • This was last year with a victory over the USA in the finals.
