POLYBUTADIENE DIACRYLATE (BAC-45 & BAC-15)SAN ESTERS CORPORATION
SAN ESTERS CORPORATION Formed in 1989 as a joint venture of the following three companies (The word “San” means “3” in Japanese) • Mitsubishi Rayon Corporation Methacrylate Producer • Osaka Organic Chemical Company Specialty Acrylate Producer • Kowa American A worldwide chemical trading company
Osaka Organic Chemicals • Osaka Organic Chemicals (OOC) was established in 1941 originally for the manufacture of synthetic fragrances and specialty chemicals • Produce a wide variety of specialty chemicals, solvents, photoresists, coating resins and hair care resins • OOC is a high technology company with over 20% of staff involved in research and development
Osaka Organic Chemical • OOC’s largest product line is acrylate monomers, which San Esters offers into the US market as a natural complement to MRC’s Methacrylates • Isobornyl Acrylate (IBXA) • 4-Hydroxybutyl Acrylate (4HBA) • Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol Monoacrylate (MPEG Acrylate) • Stearyl Acrylate (STA) • Tetrahydrofurfuryl Acrylate (THFA)
Osaka Organic Chemical • tert-Butyl Acrylate (tBA) • 2-Hydroxyethyl Acrylate (HEA) • 2-Ethoxyethyl Acrylate (2ETA) • Pentaerythritol Triacrylate (PET3A) • Phthalic Acid & other acid function acrylates • Fluorinated Acrylates and Methacrylates • Over 100 different acrylate and methacrylate monomers
Polybutadiene Diacrylate • Generally only acrylate functionality reacts, unsaturation in polybutadiene backbone normally does not react or further polymerize • Molecular weight is designed to balance viscosity& acrylic reactivity with the hydrophobic/elastomeric properties of finished resin • OOC is investigating other molecular weights and polymer backbones such as:
Polybutadiene Diacrylate (BAC-45) • BAC-45 is a specialty Oligomer that can impart both Elastomeric and Hydrophobicity into polymer systems. • Molecular weight is around 3,000 and is available as a clear slightly yellow viscous liquid. • Now available in commercial quantities (drums or pails) • Non-hazardous, Odorless, Very low draize & TSCA listed • Inhibitor level is 1,000 ppm MEHQ
Polybutadiene Diacrylate (BAC-45) • BAC-45 can be UV cured or conventionally cured either alone or combined with other organophilic monomers, oligomers or resins. It can replace urethane oligomers. • Soluble in Hexane, Aromatic solvents, Tetrahydrofuran • Insoluble in Water, Acetone and Methanol • Viscosity @ 25°C is 40 - 80 poise • Specific Gravity @ 20°C is .9 - 1.0 gr/cc
Polybutadiene Diacrylate (BAC-15) • BAC-15 is a specialty Oligomer that still imparts both hydrophobic & elastomeric properties with substantially lower viscosity and molecular weight (approx. 1400) • Viscosity @ 25°C is 1,000 - 3,000 mPS • Similar solubility parameters as BAC-45, Odorless • Higher acrylate concentration than BAC-45 allows faster curing, higher crosslink density and a more complete cure.
Polyisoprene Diacrylate - PIPA • Newest development from OOC • Similar in solubilities & properties as BAC-15 & BAC-45 • Viscosity @ 25°C is 5,000 - 12,000 mPa • Molecular Weight is approx. 2700 • Not listed on TSCA
