Wood packaging material can be the pathway for introduction and spread of quarantine pests as it frequently contains raw wood that might have not undergone sufficient treatment or processing to kill or remove pests. WHY REGULATE WOOD PACKAGING MATERIAL?
IPPC MARK ON WOOD PACKAGING MATERIAL • Regulated wood packaging material include the following: pallets, dunnage, crating, packing blocks, drums, cases, load boards, pallet collars and skids • All regulated wood packaging material must be debarked, treated with methyl bromide or heat and bears IPPC mark. • IPPC mark should be: • Legible; • Permanent and not transferable; • Placed in a visible location, preferably on at least two opposite sides of an article being certified.
CONSEQUENCES OF NON COMPLIANCE • CONSIGNMENTS MAY BE: • DESTROYED • SEND BACK TO THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN • TREATED • AT YOUR OWN COST
