Challenges – our observations • Age Restriction on l/ships • Abundance of low-level skills • Shortage of High level technical skills • Shortage of management skills • Funding for high level programmes outside l/ships • No l/ships for NQF 6/7/8
Challenges • No concrete research on skills gaps etc • Need to look wholistically at education system • Marginalised youth not included, youth included are employed and entrepreneurs • Women in support functions
Recommendations • Need research on skills gaps/shortages • Company wide • Economy • Worldwide • Companies meet ICT Council guidelines beyond compliance – Provide incentives • ICT Institute to be set up – Where is the process? • Institute will be demand driven
Recommendations • Reps on ICT Council • Youth • Women • People with Disabilities • Interest group formed to lobby Govt as SDA is regulated • Orgs with job functions not requiring physical strength should hire people with disabilities • Reporting on EE (should be implemented as a requirement)– NO EXCEPTIONS • Fly by nights – Help from ISE TT
