BACKGROUND • The general health profile of the four countries is • characterised by: • High infant & under-five mortality rates • High population growth & fertility rates • Low life expectancy • High prevalence of endemic communicable diseases (malaria, acute respiratory tract infections, diarrhoea, etc) • HIV/AIDS/ and other sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis and meningitis By Hon. FEATURES OF THE INITIATIVE (II) • Responsibilities • The Gambia co-ordinates Roll Back Malaria (RBM) actions and activities • Guinea-Bissau co-ordinates national immunization days (NIDs) • Guinea (Conakry) co-ordinates management of epidemics and complex emergencies • Senegal co-ordinates monitoring of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) By Hon.
