Once an organization achieves the certification, it is valid indefinitely as long as the organization continues to demonstrate that it meets the requirements of the CMMI model. However, the certification body may conduct regular surveillance audits to ensure that the organization is maintaining its adherence to the CMMI model. These audits may occur every 6 to 12 months, depending on the certification body's requirements. The surveillance audits will assess whether the organization has made any changes to its processes that may impact its compliance with the CMMI model, and whether it is continuously improving its processes. If an organization makes significant changes to its processes, it may need to undergo a recertification audit to ensure that it still meets the requirements of the CMMI model. However, if the organization has only made minor changes or improvements, it may only require a re- appraisal to demonstrate its continued adherence to the CMMI model.
