  2. Travel documents Keep essentials in an easily accessible compartment, or folder. Include passport, visa, boarding pass, travel insurance, hotel and car hire.

  3. Valuables Carry cash, cards and valuables with you (including glasses – and carry the prescription just in case).

  7. A spare set of clothes This will save you no end of hassle if your luggage is delayed. It’s amazing how small you can fold/roll cotton shorts/trousers and a tee-shirt.

  8. Snacks It pays to take some food in case of unexpected delays (which could happen once you’ve boarded) and it saves shelling-out top prices at the airport.

  9. Water bottle You can buy a bottle once through security, or better still, carry a refillable travel water bottle.

  10. Mobile phone/tablet Stay connected and occupied during the journey. Don’t forget earbuds/earphones.

  11. Portable charger Chose a light, compact and powerful charger to avoid the stress and hassle of battery failure while on the move.

  12. Pen & paper Yes its old-style, but they take up no room and are often overlooked in this digital age!

  13. Travel insurance Travel Insurance is a must and comes into its own if your luggage is delayed.
