  1. How to get the Absolute Best Lifting Shoes There’s no one size fits all when it comes to the wide range of activities someone one can try in the gym. From weightlifting, powerlifting, Crossfit, and everything in between, the right pair of shoes will vary greatly for the task. The best lifting shoes for you will come down to your needs. It really depends on what you’re doing: Bodybuilding is a competitive sport with some similar elements of powerlifting, depending on why you lift. Mostly compound exercises are a large part of a lifter’s routine, so get a lifting shoe that is up to the job at hand. Cross training shoes will sound like an amazing deal for being used for a lot of different things, but the fact they are not my first choice for any activity. I suggest you buy a shoe that is made for what you’re doing so you can be good at it rather than just having a bad shoe hold you back. The three significant things you want to look for in a lifting shoe are:    Large base (wide shoe) At least a .5” heel Tough, incompressible sole A large base with a wide forefoot area is a massive part for providing the surface area to make you as stable as possible. That’s really all there is to it and it makes such a difference. The minimum height of a .5” heel provides that leverage for you to have solid form and push from your heels. This is critical not only for stability purposes, but also being able to move the most weight possible. A lifting shoe that does not have an at least .4” heel will not be helpful on these lifts. Something to keep in mind though is a heel that is too high will be bad for deadlifts and will be a limiting factor. For deadlifts, a flat shoe that gets you close to the ground is the ideal choice. Next, a rigid sole that doesn’t compress is the biggest factor of a lifting shoe’s fstability. Most shoes have soles that are made for jogging to absorb the impacts, making them squishy under heavy loads. What that causes in the gym is a weak platform that will shrink under the weight and could cause you to lose your footing, making good form much more difficult and slightly dangerous even. Stability is mentioned all over the article. This is because there just isn’t another factor that is quite as important when you have so much weight on your back. Everything, even the seemingly minor things matters when it comes down to that, and being safe should be everyone’s first priority in the gym. Bestliftingshoes.org is a great resource for reviews on lifting shoes. I want to do Crossfit – which shoes should I get? I would recommend choosing Reebok because they are made with a lot of these features in mind (Like a raised heel), but with the sole being more flexible so you aren’t as likely to have foot injuries.

  2. So if you have gotten something from the above, a good shoe for the gym is basically going to be a great shoe for powerlifting. Where things get harder to discern is coming down to finding the right shoe for CrossFit because of the similarities to weightlifting, but with more focused on moving around. Although, CrossFit isn’t moving weight as it is about being able to withstand some physical abuse on your body. You don’t lose that much by having a more flexible sole. Summary You now have a better idea of what to look for in the best lifting shoes for the gym. There’s really a ton of different models out there, the trick is just getting what YOU want.
