New Research Shows How Phytoceramides Really Work on Skin

Phytoceramides, when used in lotions or taken orally as supplements, are said to enhance the skin's ability to retain moisture and to build more elastic layers. These are just like ceramides, a type of lipid, only that they are extracted from plants.

  1. New Research Shows How Phytoceramides Really Work on Skin

  2. Phytoceramides, when used in lotions or taken orally as supplements, are said to enhance the skin's ability to retain moisture and to build more elastic layers. These are just like ceramides, a type of lipid, only that they are extracted from plants.

  3. There has been little evidence and research on their effectiveness in anti-aging products, but the recent studies began to shed more light onto this matter. Such products have been labeled as nutri-cosmetics, which tells a lot about how they create effects. These lipid components called phytoceramides are known to protect elements in the skin and to ensure more collagen and elastin. It has been said that they can make up to 40% of the support tissue in skin, where moisture is contained. Since the body does not produce enough of these by itself and the diet is not rich enough in phytoceramides, supplementation is welcome.

  4. This is how phytoceramides seem to work from within and it could be an important scientific breakthrough. Scientists have said that, once inside the body, phytoceramides go to the nerves and the brain tissue, where they send a signal. They trigger the death of cells. This may sound terrible, but in fact it is a good thing. The body knows what it has to do: once a cell dies (an old one), it is being replaced immediately with a new healthy one. The relevant process here is called apoptosis and one may read online about it. Another possible action of the lipid molecules is to interfere with the senescence process – meaning the aging of skin cells. Thus, this could be slowed down through their interference, since the cell is better fed and protected.
