  1. HOW ORAL HEALTH AFFECTS OVERALL HEALTH HAMBURG DENTAL CARE THE HEART Periodontal disease may raise the risk of cardiovascular disease and deadly heart attacks. Those with gum disease are nearly twice as likely to experience heart disease as those with healthy gums. THE KIDNEYS Bacteria usually enter the body from the mouth. By poor oral care, infections grow faster. This increases the disease the kidneys must fight off. THE BRAIN Periodontal disease may increase the chance of stroke. Research has shown that harmful bacteria in the mouth can make a person more sensitive to developing blood clots and can ultimately increase the risk of a stroke. THE LUNGS Bad oral health may worsen respiratory illnesses by promoting the growth of dangerous bacteria that can be carried to the lungs. When the bacteria reach the lungs, they can breed and double to cause pneumonia and bronchitis.
