  2. Explanation of Assistive Technology • Assistive technology is technology that assists you in some way. It can be used to boost the functional independence of a person with a disability. • Assistive technology are tools to help overcome those challenges and enable people living with disabilities to enhance their quality of life and prosper in their everyday endeavors to be more independent.

  3. Law in Regards to Assistive Technology In 1988 the President signed the Technology-Related Assistance Act. This was the first act in relation to Assistive Technology. Since that time, it has been reauthorized. The most recent version is authorized through 2010. The Assistive Technology Act is referred now as the Tech Act. The Purpose of the Tech Act: The Tech Act is designed to publicize people’s understanding of assistive technology in devices and services. The Act seeks to provide assistive technology to individuals with disabilities, so they can more fully participate in all areas of life such as education, employment, and daily activities. This allows them to be the same as their peers. The Act is for any individual with any form of disability(ies) regardless of age, gender, ethnic group and in any environment.

  4. HEARING IMPAIRED Semantroids Semantroids is a device that can be used for the hearing impaired. The purpose for the Semantroids is as follows: Small 3-d animations Arms and hands of the animations produce sign language Students can watch instructional videos and Semantroids will sign what is being said Can be rewound or fast-forward Can be used in any discipline

  5. SEEING IMPAIRED Screen Readers A screen reader gives an individual user information from a computer or mobile device through a spoken digitized voice. A screen reader can also offer a user more information than just reading text on a page such as: Whether text is underlined on a page Whether a page or link was checked Whether a box to checked or unchecked

  6. LEARNING DISABLED Access to Math This software was designed to assist students that are in need of additional practice in a specific area of math.Teachers select the number of problems and the beginning and ending rules for worksheets. Students can solve problems on the computer and get immediate, interactive feedback on the problem. Feedback cues the student when the problem is correct or needs more attention. Students can choose to use the organization structures of answer boxes and visual borders around problems.

  7. PHYSICALLY DISABLED IntelliKeys This device assists students that have a difficult time using an ordinary keyboard. The IntlliKeysis a brilliant keyboard that is compatible with Macintosh or Windows computer. This keyboard is adaptable enough to meet the needs of a variety of students that are physically disabled.
