  3. What can I expect on EAP? • Academic challenge and reward • Increased personal growth, language proficiency, cultural awareness • Meet new people, make new friends • Career and resume enhancement • Travel opportunities

  4. Will I get credit for EAP? Yes! • With planning, course work can apply toward your Biology or Environmental Studies major. • All course work abroad on EAP earns UC credit, not transfer credit. • Courses are recorded on your UC transcript.

  5. Can I afford it? You can’t afford not to! • Students pay the SAME UC fees! • UCSC financial aid goes with you abroad! • Your financial aid is recalculated based on the budget for your program (includes airfare, pre-departure expenses, etc.) • Special EAP scholarships help offset any higher cost.

  6. Is there support abroad? Definitely! • A Study Center Director (or designated UC liaison officer) administers the program and is responsible for the academic and personal well-being of EAP students

  7. EAP Selection Criteria • Most programs require a 2.5 or 3.0 GPA • Most require at least sophomore or junior standing • Some have language prerequisites, but most DO NOT! • Personal motivation, maturity, flexibility, seriousness of academic purpose

  8. EAP Options? • Study in your major by taking regular host university courses • Participate in a special focus biology program • Add breadth to your studies with non-biology related study (e.g., a language and culture program)

  12. James Cook University, Australia • Marine, Rainforest, & Conservation Biology • Tropical Ecology • Field Work on the Great Barrier Reef • Study in the inland forest of Paluma Fall or Spring Tropical Ecology and Marine Biology

  13. University of Tasmania • Marine/Freshwater/Antarctic Biology • Natural Environment & Wilderness Fall or Spring Environmental Science and Biology

  14. Monteverde Institute, Costa Rica Tropical Biology and Conservation Program on the Monteverde Biological Field Station in the Cloud Forest

  15. University of British Columbia, Canada Study ecology, introductory vertebrates, and/or nonvascular plants Research at the open coast Bamfield Marine Sciences Center on Vancouver Island Marine field excursions major component of course work. Fall Marine Science on Vancouver Island

  16. University of Cape Town, South Africa Choose courses in: Biodiversity, evolutionary biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, marine biology, oceanography, and zoology. Study in: A forest, savanna, arid land, kelp bed, coral reef, and aboard a research vessel! Spring Science Semester
