Bible Customs: Understanding the Real Text People believe that Biblical text has been provided by the God to the humanity and it applies to every era’s context, irrespective of the changes that the society goes through during that period. In that sense, Bible’s true meaning remains unchanged and will remain the same forever. Many Christians believe that Bible has the written truth of God. However, the real intent and the meaning of the Holy Scripture becomes blurry in today’s world considering the fact that it was originally written around 2000 years ago, and by many different authors (around 40). It is concerning just like the importance of understanding the culture of the original Biblical era and how the scripture can be confused without sound knowledge. It has left Christians in the 21st century suffering to find meaning that can be applied in the modern context because of the cultural differences existing in today’s world and that era the text was written. Understanding real Bible Customs is important like never before. Nowadays, many people want to know what the truth of scripture is and what the real Bible customs are. Some scholars even believe that as the Bible text was written so long ago, much of the content wouldn’t apply now because times have changed significantly. Therefore, the meaning of the scripture should change accordingly. However, many other scholars and Christians affirm that the Bible is the living word of God and it will remain true for all time. They believe that – the grass withers and flowers fall, but the word of the God endures forever. While the world itself is changing so as the society within it, the Bible offers a solid foundation from which Christians can build their understanding of the world around them. History presents several examples when people attempted to apply their understanding of the world to interpret the Bible, ultimately distorting the real intention of it. One such incident was the actions of slave-owners during the foundation of America who defended their actions. The truth was distorted according to the society’s beliefs. It happened in the society that was actually slaved by the views of the people, beliefs and psychic needs. One can say that actions that arise after interpreting Biblical text in society’s context form a means to justify clearly unbiblical actions. Not understanding true Bible custom can have negative consequences. Biblical texts were not meant to be interpreted according to changing culture.
