  1. Greet This Winter the Caribbean Way In these coming winter breaks, there are two things that can happen. One, you’re a college going student who is going to vacation in a pleasant place after a long semester. Two, you work in an office and you can’t wait for a vacation from all the board meetings, presentations and work after a long year. But one thing that’s sure to happen is that you’re going to drink rum mixed with your favourite juice or tonic. But that is the beauty of this sugary spirit. It’s most likely one of the few drinks that can give you absolute peace if relaxation is an agenda, and judging by the season, it is.   2. 2.The first distillation of rum started in the 1620s, when Caribbean plantation slaves discovered by accident that molasses, a by-product of sugar refining, could be fermented into something called rum (the name came later on). 3.The origin of the word ‘Rum’ is widely disputed, but some etymologists claim that it was taken from the last syllable for the Latin word for sugar saccharum. 4.In the 17th century, rum was considered as a go-to beauty product for its ability to clean hair and strengthen it. 5.Jamaica's Wray & Nephew own the most expensive rum in the world — there are four remaining bottles from the 1940s going for a whopping INR 2,71,5736.
