In the old times, Mustang was politically part of the Tibetan empire, and now one can feel the old relationship still alive the new Mustang (part of Nepal) with culture almost similar with Tibet. Architecture is borrowed from Tibetan styled building construction, and Buddhism takes the form as practiced by Tibetans. Today, Mustang is still considered to be a kingdom within the greater Nepal, as the king of Lo, oversees the order of Lo, although he has been stripped of many powers.
