These cells, one positively charged and one negatively charged, get energized and separate the electrons from the silicon atoms. This creates a direct current, also known as DC. Since DC cannot be used to light homes, this current needs to be changed to an alternating current that is AC with the help of an inverter.  If you have an off-grid solar plant, you can even store your solar energy and use it for future use. Some days when there is enough light throughout the day can be really good for producing solar energy, whereas some days when there is not enough sunlight, production is on the lower side. More sunlight means more production of energy.  For grid-connected solar plants, you can transfer excess energy to the grid and get energy credits which can be redeemed against your usage when you draw power from the grid.
