  1. MUSHROOM FARMING BUSINESS Know Everything about Mushroom Farming Business

  2. Mushroom Farming Business • Mushroom farming is one of the most profitable agribusinesses in India. • Button mushroom business can start with less investment and space. • The US, China, Italy, and the Netherlands are the leading producers of mushrooms, and in India, Uttar Pradesh is the prime producer of button mushrooms.

  3. The process of growing button mushrooms • 1. Preparation Of Compost Preparation Of Compost The very first step is to prepare compost on the clear and raised platform, where the water does not deposit. The compost should be left open, and provision should be made to prevent it from rainwater. • 2. Preparing Compost Trays • After the compost is ready, it is brimmed in a soft wooden tray. It is necessary to keep in mind that the compost that is fill in the tray should neither be too dry nor be too wet. The compost needs to be packed to the edge, and it should be leveled on the surface.

  4. 3. Mushroom Spawning The sowing of mushroom mycelium in trays is known as spawning. Spawning is done in two ways. First is where the spawnings are littered on the bed surface of the compost. While the second is when the spawning is mixed with the compost before filling the compost in the trays. Then it is covered with paper, and water is sprinkled over it to maintain the humidity and moisture for their growth. • 4. Casing mushroom • The mixture of garden soil with crushed and sieved rotten cow dung is known as casing soil. This soil is then sterilized so that any pests, insects, nematodes, and other molds are killed. Once the sterilization is completed, the temperature of casing soil is maintained at 25 degrees Celsius for 72 hours, and then it is dropped to 18 degrees celsius. This process needs fresh air and proper ventilation with no sunlight.

  5. 5. Cropping of mushroom Button mushroom’s pinheads become noticeable after 15 - 20 days, and these small-sized mushrooms start developing in 2-7 days after casing. The mushrooms will be ready to harvest once the caps of mushrooms become tight. • 6. Mushroom harvesting Once the mushrooms become tight, the cap is gently twisted off by pressing the mushrooms against the soil. This technique helps in chopping off the mycelial threads and soil particles, which attach to mushrooms and soil.
