What is HVOF Spray Process and Where is It Used

In the hvof spray process, extremely high velocity of the particles develops kinetic energy. It is also true that gas is ejected at a high temperature but the kinetic energy produced in the process is more important and effective than the temperature. It helps in forming a highly dense and hard coating.

  1. What is HVOF Spray Process and Where is It Used? HVOF coating orHigh Velocity Oxygen Fuel coating is a “thermal spray process” where oxygen is mixed with fuel and fed into a combustion chamber that is finally ignited. In the combustion chamber, a gas is formed at a high temperature and pressure that comes out at a supersonic speed through a nozzle. When the gas ejects at such a high speed, a powder is pushed in the stream, and the gas mixed with the power is directed at the substrate to be coated. The result of this hvof spray process is a coating is intense bonding with the substrate material and low porosity. It makes the coating stronger than normal coating and panting. It can resist corrosion for a much longer time than normal hand-made or traditional spray coating. Key to high success rate of HVOF coating In the hvof spray process, extremely high velocity of the particles develops kinetic energy. It is also true that gas is ejected at a high temperature but the kinetic energy produced in the process is more important and effective than the temperature. It helps in forming a highly dense and hard coating. The process also saves much time as it works faster than traditional processes. Benefits of the HVOF coating process HVOF coating is perfect for adverse weather conditions. It is also highly effective in protecting the parts that are exposed to various weather conditions outside or susceptible to heavy corrosion and wear. Several parts of two-wheelers and four-wheelers experience various weather conditions while on the roads. On the other hand, the aircraft landing gear is subjected to a high level of tensile stress. In all these cases, the hvof spray process is the best solution. Some other mention-worthy benefits are as follows:  The process offers the highest level of bond strength and high density.  It can improve the surface hardness and overall strength of the equipment to a great extent.  It offers the best possible corrosion resistance.  The process has a proven higher coating thickness capability in comparison to all other thermal spraying processes.  It is the fastest coating process with more accuracy and the lowest porosity. Materials used in the HVOF coating process In this spraying process, several types of materials are used for coating depending on the substrate. Some commonly used coating materials in the HVOF spray process include Tungsten Carbide, Tungsten Carbide-Nickle Superalloy, Tungsten Carbide-Cobalt Chrome, Stainless Steel, and Chromium Carbide. Not every material is suitable for every substrate.

  2. For example, Tungsten Carbide is extremely thick which is recommended where the risk of wear and tear is very high. On the other hand, stainless steel coating is recommended where the chance of corrosion is high or to protect a surface against cavitation. Find HVOF sprays online IMC offers various HVOF spray models. The models are displayed online for easy and quick procuring. Depending on the type of HVOF spray process you need for your process you can buy one or more models. They have categorized the models into three categories, viz. wire flame spray system, twin wire arc spray system, and powder flame spray system. Go through the specifications and functions of the models and contact them for further inquiry.
