  1. 4 Tips for Selecting a Low- Maintenance Industrial Touch Screen Monitor Touch screen monitors like most technology need care, maintenance and cleaning to maintain peak performance. Fortunately, the time and cost of this can be influenced significantly at the purchase time, by purchasing touch screen monitors that are low maintenance, and less prone to failure. Consider some of the features below when making your touch screen monitor purchase decision.

  2. 1. No Buttons on the Front One of the most problematic features of touch screen monitors can be having buttons on the front. This can include buttons to power the unit on and off, adjust volume and adjust display settings. Some customers consider a tablet instead of a commercial grade touch screen monitor and it is the button on the front that is one of the leading causes of their high failure rates. Purchasing a touch screen that does not have buttons on the front is especially important when the touch screen is exposed to the public, or has any ruggedised requirements. Buttons are prone to failure. If users are rough, or environments are dirty they tend to fail much quicker than the touch screen technology, making the equipment fail unnecessarily. In addition, buttons can be fiddled with. Whether deliberately or accidentally, supporting a touch screen project with buttons on the front becomes frustrating and expensive and can lead to costly and unnecessary down times. Technicians end up being sent out to adjust a setting, restart the monitor or swap out equipment that has failed simply due to a setting change or button failure. 2. Toughened Glass Most customers would not consider a touch screen without toughened glass for any kind of industrial or ruggedised application. Whilst toughened glass may not make a touch screen monitor completely vandal resistant, it does significantly increase the protection from impact and scratching. Toughened glass protects the expensive internal technology, and keeps the touch screen looking new and vibrant for much longer. Do Not Choose an Embedded Computer For a time all in one touch screens with embedded computers were popular, but today most of our customers purchase a touch screen monitor separate to their computer. Customers found that in many cases the computer failed before the touch screen monitor, and this meant that the entire, very expensive, all in one unit needed to be replaced, rather than simply replacing the computer. In addition upgrading the internal computer specifications was problematic or impossible. And further, the computer components and specifications were not the same as the other computers in their organisations which led to increased costs in supporting them. Support teams needed to be trained. New procedures needed to be written. And a computer could not simply be swapped out when it failed. Or alternatively, many of our customers obtain their computer through their usual computer vendor. This enables them to use the same brands, and support structures that they are familiar with, and if one fails they can easily swap it out with their existing stock. 4. Choose a Touch Screen Monitor with PCAP Technology At InTouch Screens we supply touch screens that use PCAP technology. Amongst all the benefits of PCAP technology is that they are in our opinion the most low maintenance technology available. Infrared technology can be more likely to have a thick bezel that attracts dust and grime and needs to be cleaned regularly to remain clean and hygienic. They are also prone to failure when dirt and grime obstruct the light beams. Resistive technology can be more likely to be damaged by impact and scratching since it relies on a film added to the top of the glass.

  4. Surface Capacitive technology can be more likely to require calibration. PCAP technology is outstanding in regard to its low maintenance levels. It can be quickly and easily cleaned. It does not require calibration. It is plug and play with the latest Windows versions. And most importantly, the technology is all protected below the toughened glass making it particularly difficult to damage.
