Frigidaire was founded in 1916 as a Guardian Frigerator company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. First, it developed a self-contained refrigerator. This brand was so popular in the refrigeration field in the 1900s that many Americans called the refrigerator Frigidaire. Earlier, the company was owned by General Motors from 1919 to 1979. During that time, the brand was initially a subsidiary of Delco-Light and later an independent division based in Dayton, Ohio.
