We will look at the science that is seen at a Theme Park like Fiesta Texas. Then, we will look at the Math that relates to the science that we have seen.
But before we do that… We need a little background information. Introducing Isaac Newton
Conservation of Energy Potential Energy = Kinetic Energy • An object has the Potential to do energy. • An object has Kinetic • Energy when it is in • motion
Conservation of Energy is seen at a Theme Parkwith Roller Coasters.
Potential Energy • At the top of the hill, the roller coaster has its greatest potential energy. • As it starts down the • hill, potential energy • begins to decrease.
Kinetic Energy • Again, is what potential energy changes into because the roller coaster is moving. • At the bottom of the hill the roller coaster is going its fastest, so the kinetic energy is its greatest.
You See… Energy is always conserved! • At any given point along the roller coaster you will have…. • E=PE+KE • PE = mgh & KE = ½ mv*v • Hence you get: E = mgh + ½ mv*v m = mass g = gravity v = velocity
In Review… • At the top of the hill the roller coaster has its greatest potential energy. {KE = 0} • As it begins down the hill, potential energy decreases as kinetic energy increases. • Then at the bottom of the hill, potential energy is at its lowest point while kinetic energy is at its greatest. {PE = 0}
