QuickBooks Point of Sale Stopped Working - PosTechie for QuickBooks POS Support Resolve unexpected errors when opening POS When processing a transaction or opening POS you receive one of the following errors ● Unexpected error happened, please restart Point of Sale. Parameter:s ● Unable to open the program through the Point of Sale icon ● Error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation ● Configuration system failed to initialize ● Error 100 database server not found "08w01" ● Error: 176120 invalid license key status, key denied ● Error: QBPOSShell has stopped working The errors may be caused by: ● Your computer not meeting the minimum system requirements ● Point of Sale Database Manager that may not be running
● Damaged or improperly installed Microsoft.NET framework Before troubleshooting... ● Ensure your computer meets System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale to run POS. ● Ensure to run the QBPOS Database Manager vXX. 1. From Start window button search field, enter services.msc then choose Ok. 2. From the Services window, right click QBPOS Database Manager vXX and select Start. 3. If Start is unavailable, select Restart. (XX should be the highest number version you see). ● Restart your computer. Solution 1: Make sure all Point of Sale updates are installed Note: Before completing the update process and to ensure issue resolution, you may need to Rename the Intuit Entitlement Client Folder. Go to the product updates page, make sure Point of Sale is selected as your product, and follow the instructions to install a Manual update. You may have to reboot afterward. Solution 2: Try a new Windows user 1. Click the Windows Start button, type User Accounts in search field, then select Enter. 2. Select Manage user accounts, then click Manage another account. 3. Click Create a new account and give it the name of Test. Choose Administrator for user type. 4. Log off Windows, sign in as the user you just created and try to open Point of Sale again. If the issue persists, try toggling your UAC settings. Solution 3: Close and restart QBPOSShell and troubleshoot compatibility 1. Close Point of Sale and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. 2. If necessary, select Start Task Manager. 3. Select the Processes tab and click the Image Name column title to sort it alphabetically. 4. Right-click QBPOSShell.exe, then select End Process. 5. Important: If you see more than one QBPOSShell, follow the steps below to troubleshoot compatibility with Windows. 6. Close Task Manager and open Point of Sale.
Troubleshoot Compatibility: 1. Right-click the Point of Sale icon on your Desktop and choose Troubleshoot compatibility. 2. Select Try recommendation settings and follow the instructions. 3. When finished, reboot your computer and open Point of Sale. If the issue persists, use solution 4 to repair .NET Framework. Solution 4: Uninstall and reinstall .NET framework and QuickBooks Point of Sale 1. Uninstall QuickBooks Point of Sale 2. Uninstall .NET Framework 4.0 and 4.5. a. On the Programs & Features window, select Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (or 4.5) b. Select Uninstall, then click Next. c. Follow instructions to uninstall the application, and then proceed with Step 5 below to reinstall it. Make sure to reboot your computer after uninstalling .NET framework. d. Note: If you encounter any errors while uninstalling .NET Framework, please contact a qualified IT professional or Microsoft as this is a Microsoft component that interacts with the operating system, not just QuickBooks. 3. Install .NET Framework 4.5 (4.0 Client and Extended built in. a. Download .NET Framework 4.5 (.NET Framework 4.5 is a combination of the .NET Framework 4.0 Client and Extended)from the Microsoft's website. b. Save the file to your desktop, then double-click the file and follow the instructions on the screen to install. c. Reboot after the installation. d. If you encounter any errors while installing .NET Framework, please contact a qualified IT professional or Microsoft. 4. Reinstall Point of Sale. When trying to open your company file in Point of Sale, you see one of the following errors: 1. Failed to open company 2. Error: Unable to connect to your company data file 3. Login to company file failed 4. Connection is broken Why is this happening Company data file errors may be caused by one of the following: 1. Point of Sale has been installed as a client workstation instead of a server 2. Point of Sale is attempting to reconnect to the company data file 3. The POS database service manager isn't running and is unable to login your file 4. Connection to the company file has been lost 5. Damage to the company file 6. Company file was converted to a higher version of Point of Sale using a Windows XP SP2 Operating System How to fix When QuickBooks POS Failed to Open Intuit recommends more than one solution for this issue. The first solution may resolve the issue or you may have to try all to resolve the problem. For best results, perform the solution in the order shown. Important: 1. Reboot your computer. 2. Note: This process makes the Operating System start fresh with a full block of processes. It helps reset the program to its initial state which brings optimum performance. 3. Log in as the Windows administrator. 4. Note: This allows you to make configuration changes in Windows and control your working environment. 1. Close Point of Sale. 2. Click the Windows Start button, enter Services.msc, and then press Enter. 3. Configure Intuit Entitlement Service: 1. Double-click the Intuit Entitlement Service v#. (If there is more than one, choose the highest number version you see ). 2. Click the General tab, from the Startup Type field, select Automatic and ensure the Service status is Started. 3. Go to the Log On tab. 4. Select Local System Account and Allow Service to Interact with Desktop. 5. Go to the Recovery tab, select Restart the Service from the First, Second and Subsequent failures fields. 6. Click Apply and then OK. 4. Configure QBPOS Database Manager: 1. Double-click the QBPOS Database Manager X (where X is the highest number listed). 2. Go to the General tab, select Automatic from the Startup type field and ensure that the Service status is Started. 3. Go to the Log On tab. 4. Select Local System Account and Allow Service to Interact with Desktop. 5. Click Apply and then OK. 5. Open the company file again. Solution 2: Create a test company file and then try again 1. Open Point of Sale. 2. From the Start Company screen, select create new company, and then click Next. 3. In the Company Name field, type Test, and then click Create. 4. Open the Test file 5. Note: If the test file fails to open, proceed with Perform a Clean Reinstall for Point of Sale. This may be caused by a program error. 6. Choose File > Company operations, and click Next. 7. Select open existing company, choose your company file, and click Next. Note: If following these steps did not resolve the issue, proceed with Solution 3. Solution 3: Restore a backup 1. Open Point of Sale and select the Test company file. 2. Choose File > Company operations. 3. Select Restore from backup and click Next. 4. Select Browse to alternate backup file and click Browse. 5. In the left window, navigate to: 1. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS 11.0\Data\"Your Company Name"\Backup\ 2. Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS 11.0\Data\"Your Company Name"\Backup
6. Select the most recent backup and click Next. This will restore your company file to the date and the time the backup was created. Solution 3: Rename the Company File 1. Go to the location of your Company File. 1. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS 11.0\Data\"Your Company Name" 2. Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS 11.0\Data\"Your Company Name" 2. Rename the Company File 1. From the Company File location, right click the file name, select rename and enter the new file name. Note: If you do not want to change the entire name, you may add a letter or number at the end of the name 3. Open your Company File in Point of Sale again.
