Crocodiles Crocodiles have a very unusual appearance. Their most distinguishing attribute is the large flat head. Their ears, eyes and nose are all on top of the head so that the crocodile can be almost completely underwater and still see, hear, and breath. This makes it easier for it to sneak up on it’s prey and surprise them. They grab their prey with their sharp teeth, then drag and drown them underwater. The different colors of their heavy and thick scales also make them hard to see in water and on land, since they like to hide in the underbrush. Crocodiles can live in a few different habitats. They can live in salt water or freshwater. They like to have the green underbrush of swamps and marshes around for protection. Saltwater crocodiles live in the tidal waterway areas of Austrailia, and many other places around the world.
