ICT Development in figures • ICT sector share in GDP - 2.3 % • Investment - $ 100 million (81% foreign) • ICT sector revenue in 2004 was $ 285 million (80 % generated by private sector versus 32% in 1997) • 92% of private sector revenue generated by the mobile sector • 12.4 - PSTN subscribers per 100 inhabitants • 18.02 - mobile subscribers per 100 inhabitants • 2.4 - PCs per 100 inhabitants • 3.6 - Internet users per 100 inhabitants
Priorities of Communication Infrastructure Development • Digitalization of transmission and communication networks • Developing of broadband technologies • Bridging the gap between rural and urban areas
Challenges in legal and regulatory framework • Structural conflict of interest • Lack of inter-connection arrangements • Up-to-date law on telecommunication has not been adopted yet • Lack of Independent Regulator • Government regulation of all tariffs for telecommunication services
