Status of TAWS Development Melanie Gouveia, Northrop Grumman IT Jeff Morrison,* Northrop Grumman IT Lt Col Marie Walters, AFRL Dr. Andreas Goroch, NRL Dr. Richard Shirkey, ARL Charles McGrath, SSC-SD BACIMO Conference 11 September 2003
Presentation Outline • Major TAWS Versions • TAWS Version 3.2 Features • TAWS Version 4.0 Features • Plans for TAWS Version 4.1
Product Release Date TAWS 2.4 26 November 2001 TAWS 3.2 TAWS 3.3 TAWS 3.1.2 26 June 2003 [3 October 2003] 24 October 2002 TAWS 4.0 [30 September 2003] TAWS 4.1 [31 March 2004] Major TAWS Versions
Environmental/Meteorological Data Automated ingest of COAMPS weather data from the Navy’s TEDS More efficient regional weather download from TEDS Targets / Backgrounds Navy’s improved water background model for MWIR/LWIR Additional targets in the TAWS target database Sensors Army’s ACQUIRE sensor performance model for IR/TV/NVG detection ranges and detection probabilities Additional sensors in the TAWS sensor database Geographic Data Ability to initialize background and albedo from Army TEC’s high-resolution terrain features database Ability to determine target shadowing and target masking from NIMA DTED or Army TEC terrain elevations database TAWS Version 3.2 Features
Interface to PFPS 3.2 Load sortie/intel information from PFPS 3.2 route server or CRD file Send output to FalconView map server Usability Enhancements Merge NOWS capabilities into TAWS Allow separate saves for weather, sortie, intel input components Copy across function for weather parameters Startup location is the last location used Flexible graphs Preferred output products automatically appear when analysis is done Preferred file locations Classified or unclassified processing Customizable Toolbar Miscellaneous New Illumination Quick Look option New Analyze over Grid option DII/COE Level 6 compliant TAWS 3.2 Features (cont.)
User Preferences: Classification Session classification level always visible. Classification level defaults to highest level of sensor and target data files. User can upgrade the session classification level.
Changes to Preferences take effect immediately. Includes new Output Products preferences. Automatically display all possible plots in the preferred profile upon completion of an analysis. Add and remove preferred templates. User Preferences: Output
Flexible Graphs Specify exactly what you want to see on each plot. Include results for multiple sensors on a single plot. Include results for multiple targets on a single plot.
Separate Saves for Weather/Sortie/Intel • Save to File… and Load from File… buttons on TAWS Meteorological Data, Sortie Properties, and Target/ Background Properties dialogs allow the user to save and load these parameters separately • Data may be saved and loaded from either Single Point-Based Analysis or Multiple Map-Based Analysis • Saved weather data may be used by IRTSS
Interface with PFPS 3.2 Can add TAWS icon to CFPS toolbar. Option to ingest TAWS sortie from the currently focused PFPS route. Have TAWS automatically send all available “by-view-direction” graphs to FalconView.
Version 3 Targets Working on a list of 86 high-priority targets. Includes several buildings. Includes mobile and stationary AAA. Interface to PFPS 3.3.1 Load sortie/intel information from PFPS 3.3.1 route server or CRD file Send output to FalconView map server Plans for TAWS Version 3.3
Environmental/Meteorological Data Integrate Army’s GMDB weather getter Atmospheric Transmission Allow upward and near-horizontal LOS paths for the IR/Laser Implement multi-layer transmission model for LWIR/MWIR Targets / Backgrounds Support wakes for ship/boat targets Support airborne targets for the IR/Laser Additional targets in the TAWS target database Sensors Support recognition/identification ranges Support TV CCD sensors Additional sensors in the TAWS sensor database TAWS Version 4.0 Features
Interface to PFPS Ingest PFPS additional points Usability Enhancements Port TAWS GUI to Java and update to NITES II framework Port TAWS core objects to ANSI-standard C++ for platform independence Allow more flexible output tables Use JMTK as map server Include weapons fan map overlay output product Use JAWS target categories/subcategories TAWS 4.0 Features (cont.)
Recognition/Identification Ranges Can show detection, recognition, and identification ranges on a single plot.
