BE SURE POWER IS OFF. Power knob Pull knob up to turn unit on. Battery % will display first. Then power light will remain on. Charge jack Plug power in here overnight. Recharge whenever below 25%. Conductor arrow Align this arrow with your targeted conductor for inductive mode. Power level Start at low, switch to high if locate impossible at low power. Battery charge indicator Use the chart to the right to determine if the battery has sufficient charge. If less than 25%, recharge immediately. If >50%, you should have enough charge for the day’s work. 850 Transmitter 850 Receiver Left/Right signal Battery strength indicator Mode Selector Turn off when not in use. Check battery (see right). Turn on to perform locate procedure Use when required during daily check. To check and replace batteries Mode selector Heaphone jack • Turn mode selector to battery check. • If needle is to the left of good range, replace batteries. (Four 9V) Audio Do not use the headphone jack. You must be aware of nearby changing safety issues such as traffic. The speaker is sufficient. Signal strength Depth button Speaker • To perform locate… • After performing required checks on unit as per M-60.2, and with power turned off, insert appropriate attachment into transmitter. • If locating conductively, connect the red lead to the locating wire or other conductive attachment, and connect the black lead to the ground stake. If inductively, connect the coupler to the conductor or align the transmitter’s conductor arrow with the suspected location of the facility. Batteries under here Battery access screw • Start 10' to 15' from the transmitter. Sweep left to right across where you expect to find the target conductor. Use the left/right indicator to find the conductor. • Follow target sweeping left to right always noting strength of signal. A sudden drop in signal accompanied by a left/right movement of the bar indicate a turn, tee or end of target conductor. • 5. Mark as you go, per marking standards and procedures.
