  1. Learn More About The True Meaning Behind Kosher Noodles Many consumers sometimes wonder what the word ‘Kosher’ really means, particularly when it is used as a symbol to identify certain foods or food products. Kosher derives from Israel and the best way to define the true meaning of Kosher is to say that the food that is offered, fully complies with Jewish law. Hebrew's definition of kosher is ‘adequate or fit’, which is then translated into modern terms as ‘legal or correct’. Fare is usually food or food products that do not adhere to such Jewish laws. These monetary (or kashrut) principles have been understood and passed down through the centuries in the Jewish culture, and they are mostly based on the biblical passages of Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Because of this, the global food industry has done everything it can and should to satisfy the unique cultural and traditional requirements of its diverse client base. Thanks to this initiative by the global food industry, today it is possible for people from around the world, and of different cultures and backgrounds to prepare and enjoy healthy and wholesome meals by using staples such as Kosher noodles. Kosher can also mean ‘renewal’, although, in most commercial kitchens and food manufacturing facilities, this term is typically used to refer to the annual cleaning and sanitization of all equipment required to manufacture Kosher food products, by Jewish tradition. Kosher noodles are becoming more and more popular, but even though there are more than 300 different types of pasta available these days, only a small number of them are truly regarded as kosher. This is a result of the strict regulations that specify what constitutes kosher food and how these regulations may differ at specific times, such as during the month of Passover. There are primarily two varieties of pasta (whether dry or fresh), gluten-free pasta and pasta that contains gluten. Italian cuisine is known for its traditional, gluten-rich pasta, which is made from dough that is formed by mixing water with durum wheat. The dough is then cut into different shapes and sizes and either dried or used freshly by boiling it in water. Gluten-free pasta, on the other hand, is made by using organic, plant-based, gluten-free ingredients like buckwheat, brown, black, or red rice, amaranth, miso, and wakame.

  2. Kosher noodles are those that adhere to a rigid dietary code by customary Jewish law. Therefore, kosher is more than about food health and safety, because it has to adhere to the religious tradition. For Jewish individuals specifically, these laws specify exactly what foods or food products can be produced, how they can be processed, how to prepare them, and how to consume them. Meat and dairy products cannot be combined according to strict Kosher law, and they should even be stored separately. For instance, after having meat, one has to wait a certain amount of time (often up to six hours) before being ‘allowed’ to consume dairy products. Contrarily, pareve foods like Kosher noodles, are seen as neutral and can be eaten with either dairy or meat products. How do I know that my pasta is Kosher? First and foremost, this should be indicated on the product label. Most food producers will indicate if a product is kosher or not by using a Kosher symbol or providing more specific information. You can also look for the product online if there is no symbol or if the information printed on the label is not clear or illegible for some reason. You can also examine the ingredients used to make, say, kosher noodles and determine whether they are kosher or not. The main ingredients in traditional pasta are typically all-purpose flour, salt, eggs, and water, all of which are kosher, but note that they are not necessarily gluten-free. Some established brands with kosher certification will sometimes be mentioned in a database or it will provide detailed information on their website about the kosher status of their products.
