PEDIATRIC ALLERGY is a subspecialty within the specialty of allergy. Children are different from adults in many respects. Children cannot always express what they feel and many parents are not familiar with what are the allergy symptoms that they should look for, hence many allergic diseases go unrecognized in children. Allergy can be very disruptive to children lives and to their lives as adults, by hindering the child’s ability to function as a normal adult in a competitive world. Allergic diseases in children can lead to serious and long lasting consequences such as: •Frequent respiratory infections, bronchitis and pneumonias •Frequent ear, nose and throat infections •Unnecessary removal of the adenoids and tonsils •Loss of hearing •Speech defects •Learning disabilities •Poor performance and low grade in school •Importantly, asthma, which is the most common allergic disease of the lungs in children, can and frequently does endanger the life of many children and alter their quality of life and learning ability in school. Dr. Shawky A. Hassan serves as our Pediatric Allergist in addition to taking care of allergy problems in adults. In addition to his Board certification in the field of Allergy and Clinical Immunology as a specialist to take care of all allergic diseases of both adults and children, he received additional training and postgraduate education in Pediatrics.
