www.mehtaspine.co.uk About Mehta Spine • Mr Jwalant S Mehta is a consultant spinal surgeon specialising in spinal deformity corrections and treatment of all spinal conditions. • His is based in Birmingham at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Additionally, he has practising privileges with the BMI and Spire groups. • He serves on major steering committees of the premier international scoliosis organisation, the Scoliosis Research Society. He is currently serving on the CME and the Research Grant review committees, and is a programme reviewer for the IMAST and the annual meetings. He has recently been appointed as an honorary senior lecturer at the Aston University in Birmingham, heading the Spine module on the MCh (Orth) course. • He completed spinal fellowships in Bristol and Columbia, Missouri, USA. He has been a full time spinal surgeon since 2009. Though his practice focuses on adult and children spinal deformities, he treats all spinal conditions.

The Scoliosis can progress with growth. • The aim of treatment is to maintain growth of the thorax during the growing years. • The Focus is on allowing for normal lung development, rather than correcting the spinal curvature.

These include the Traditional Growing Rods (TGR), Magnetic (MAGEC) rods, SHILLA growth guidance systems, VEPTR and Vertebral body tethering. At skeletal maturity the patient has one last operation called Definitive fusion.
