  1. THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CARBON FARMING

  2. THE BASICS: WHAT IS CARBON FARMING? Carbon farming refers to a broad set of agricultural practices that are aimed at storing atmospheric carbon in the soil and vegetation while reducing greenhouse gas emissions with better use and management of vegetation, livestock and fertilisers. These practices can range – from a single change in land management, such as grazing management and no-till cultivation, to a whole-of-farm integrated activities which maximise carbon sequestration and minimise carbon emissions.

  3. Types Carbon Farming Maximising groundcover No till cultivation Pasture cropping Mulching Stubble retention Exhaust injections Application of natural fertilisers Grazing management Cover cropping Natural sequence farming Water spreading Manure management Biodynamic Permaculture Subsoil ploughing

  4. BENEFITS OF CARBON FARMING • Thousands of farmers and agricultural producers across Australia are realising and leveraging carbon farming opportunities to increase production and acquire greater financial stability in the long-term. • In addition to the clear advantages of offsetting carbon emissions and receiving more income, carbon farmers can benefit from: • Improved soil structure • Improved water holding capacity • Increased organic matter in soil • Reduced soil erosion and runoff • Improved overall health of soil
