Blue Athletic Letter • Blue Letter will be mailed April/May to all incoming 9th Graders. Information concerning the following: • Health History/Parent Permission Form should not be submitted any sooner than 60 days prior to the first day of practice. (NJ Law) • One Physical per school year (Anniversary Date) – For Fall Sports - June 23rd due not before, but no later than July 20th. (Doctor/Complete Care, Doctor’s Are In) • Part A-Health History Update, Part B-Comprehensive Physical Card / Permission Card; Random Drug (HC) and Steroid (NJSIAA) Consent Forms can be found on the Athletic Home Page (Forms) and the Health Office website or offices. • Previous sport participation in Fall. Winter and Spring Sports – Part A Health History Update/Permission Card (Physical) – Due Dates will be found on Blue Letter
2010-11 Athletic Form Submission Nights 9th Grade July 12th & July 20th Location – Commons By Sport Listings: Time: Girl’s TN/VB 5:00 PM; CH/FB/Gym 5:45 PM; B/G X-C/FH 6:30 PM; B/G SOC 7:15 PM All Athletic Physical Forms Part A/B, Random Drug, NJSIAA Steroid Consent, Parent Permission, All Medication Orders from physicians must be included, ie: asthma, Epi-Pen and will be collected by HC Nursing Staff and Dr. Barr Medical Examiner. Submission Dates are NOT physical dates. Your physical must still be done by your Home Physician and completed by same before being turned in on either night. Blue Letter
Academic Eligibility • Freshman are free of any academic credit requirements during the first semester of entrance to HC. • Spring sports- 2nd semester freshman must project 15 credits to be eligible to participate. • As a Sophomore, to be eligible for fall and winter sports-students must have accrued 30 credits from the previous school year.
2010 Fall Official Practice • Girls Tennis Friday August 13th • Football begins on Thursday August 16th Freshman Football Monday August 23th • All other Fall Sports begin on Saturday August 21st
2009/2010 Winter & Spring Start Dates • Winter Sports November 15th for Bowling, Swimming, Ice Hockey. All other winter sports start the Friday after Thanksgiving. • Spring Sports the First Friday in March. • “Rule of Thumb” Note all forms due a month in advance of the start date.
Practice Schedule • When school is in session. Practice sessions take place every day after school starting at 3:00 PM (Tutorials Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday). • The length of practice is up to the discretion of the individual coach. In most cases, practice will run to approximately 5:30 PM. • There are Saturday practices, in rare cases sometimes Sundays; they are used for Varsity only.

Athletic Training Program • Training Rooms are open everyday at 11:00 am. • Ms. Manfre & Mr. Riccardella - Trainers • Injuries must be reported to the coach of the sport/trainer when they occur. • Use of Rooms/Trust of the Parents. • If you see a Doctor for an injury prior to a trainer, a note is needed for return to sport participation.
TREATMENTPATHWAYS INITIAL INJURY ATHLETIC TRAINER EVALUATION (determine injury severity and need for further medical evaluation) PARENT CONTACT CALL 911 TREAT IN HOUSE A.T. REHAB/TREATMENT TEAM PHYSICAN FAMILY PHYSICIAN (If athlete is seen outside of school, a note stating the injury, treatment protocol, limitations, and a follow-up or “return to play” date MUST be returned to the athletic trainer before the athlete is allowed to participate again.) (Athletic Trainer works under standing orders from team Orthopedist re: treatment protocol. Team Orthopedist visits school once a week to evaluate injured athletes) PHYSICAL THERAPY COACH Sellmann (strength and conditioning coach works with athletic trainers during and after in house rehab, as well as with Physical Therapists post rehab) ATHLETIC TRAINER RETURN TO SPORT (Functional testing and medical clearance dictate return to participation.) (Taped or braced as needed. Possible restrictions still enforced.)
ImPACT and Concussion • PROGRAM STARTED 7 YEARS AGO • TEST ATHLETES WHOSE SPORTS PLACE THEM AT RISK OF SUFFERING A CONCUSSION. • ESTABLISH BASELINE SCORE FOR “NORMAL” BRAIN FUNCTION FOR EACH ATHLETE TESTED. • VERBAL MEMORY, VISUAL MEMORY, SPEAD OF REACTION TIME, AND COGNITIVE ABILITY ARE ALL TESTED. • EACH SCORE IS RECORDED AND STORED FOR COMPARISON TO A “POST TRAUMA” SCORE ONCE THE ATHLETE SUSTAINS A HEAD INJURY. • SCORES ARE FOR COMPARISON OF PRE- AND POST-INJURY BRAIN FUNCTION OF THAT PARTICULAR ATHELETE ONLY. SCORES ARE NOT COMPARED BETWEEN ATHLETES. • THE ONLY PEOPLE WITH ACCESS TO THESE SCORES ARE THE ATHLETIC TRAINERS, DR. BARR, THE ATHLETES TESTED, PARENTS, AND FAMILY PHYSICIANS AND NEUROLOGISTS AT THE PARENTS REQUEST THROUGH THE ATHELTIC TRAINERS.

Red Devil Pay to Participate • For the 2010-11 School Year HC will initiate Pay to Participate in the Athletic Program. • Costs associated with participation will be a one time fee of $100 for a student to participate (regardless of number of sports), with a $200 cap (2nd child) per family per school year. • Information on Forms/Payment procedures will be forth coming from the Business Office.
