The Funding Picture: CMA’s Role Starting a Project • The first step to get a project funded is to have the project approved in the Countywide Transportation Plan (CWTP) and Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) • The amount of projects included in the CWTP is financially constrained • The CWTP and RTP are generally approved in concurrent processes 2
The Funding Picture: CMA’s Role So you have a project in the CWTP • Having a project included in the CWTP/RTP does not mean you can start spending $ • Funds need to be programmed to the project 3

Project Sponsor Submits application to CMA CMA Evaluates candidate projects (consistency with Countywide Plan, etc) and adopts or amends CMP MTC Evaluates projects from CMAs/regional projects and adopts federal TIP MTC MTC’s federal TIP approved by FHWA/FTA Process for Selecting ProjectsFederal STP, CMAQ 14
