  3. History of hard candies The history of these candies goes back over hundred years. It is associated with Egyptian times when they used to have honey instead of today’s hard candies. Yes, you are reading it right. They used to collect sweet honey and then harden it by making small chunks. You will be amazed to know that the word ‘candy’ was derived from the Sanskrit word ‘khanda’ which means a small piece of sugar’. Later on, Arabic culture captured this word as ‘candy’. After this, he started producing fruit-flavored candies by keeping gelatin as the leading ingredient. He gave these candies the shape of small cute bears. Hence, everyone started calling these candies gummy bears. Today, gummy candies are being offered by the leading candies and chips manufacturers in India in different shapes and sizes.
