The novel also beautifully describes Mevlut’s lifetime in the roads of Istanbul through the period of more than 4 decades, from the year 1969 to the year 2012. During this lifespan of 4 decades, Mevlut works in a variety of jobs during the day time and then manages to sell boza during the winter nights. Throughout these decades, Mevlut observes the numerous makeovers that the city, the societies and Turkey experience. All the while, Mevlut frequently surprises at the basis of this “strangeness” in his mind is – a strangeness that sets him apart from the rest.
