  2. QUFA • Certified bargaining agent for approx. 1300 Faculty, Librarians, and Archivists • Amalgamated bargaining units as of July 1, 2007 • First amalgamated Collective Agreement (CA) took effect June 27, 2008

  3. Functions Promotes: • The interests of Queen's University academic staff • Equity in recruitment and hiring of academic staff • A positive working environment free of discrimination, interference, restriction, or coercion

  4. Functions Represents: • Members collectively in discussions with the University about Benefits, Equity, Pension Plan and other related matters • Members individually and collectively in discussion with University about appropriate application of CA provisions • QUFA on Joint Committee to Administer the Agreement (JCAA) for discussions about interpreting and implementing CA

  5. Membership in Bargaining Unit Bargaining Unit • All academic staff are members of the Bargaining Unit • Dues are deducted • CA is negotiated and applied • Eligible to vote on major decisions (e.g., ratification, amalgamation)

  6. Membership in Union Membership in the Union • is voluntary and only requires completing and submitting a form (in Welcome Package or through QUFA Office) • No additional dues • Only Union Members may participate in QUFA committees, serve on a negotiating team, or participate in the decision-making processes of the Association at General Meetings (aside from decisions such as ratification)
