Children suffering from Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have problems in completely simple tasks as they have difficulty in focusing or being still, they miss out the instructions or respond impulsively. This really frustrates the parents and they wish to have a remedy for the problems.

  3. Consulting the best occupational therapists would be a great solution, as they are trained and qualified for helping children with fine motor difficulties. It is not necessary that all sorts of problems associated with ADHD must be treated in therapy centers, some of the mild issues can be treated at home.

  4. Here are some of the strategies employed by occupational therapists for treating ADHD at home.

  5. Have an organised plan for daily routines: Make the child aware of the daily routines and help them plan it with the end pictures in mind. Make them think of the end of the task picture even before beginning the task. This really helps in planning towards the end for obtaining the desired results.

  6. Preparing parents for asking the right questions: Parents instead of ordering children what to do, must be trained to ask them what they want to do. This will develop situational awareness in children that will lead them to initiate tasks and complete it will self-confidence.

Therapists always seek opportunities in merging physical activities into learning, that is a more effective form of learning. For example, learn math while jumping on a trampoline.

  9. Making Children aware of their distractions: Children may have different kinds of distractions, some may be distracted by ideas or thoughts, while others may be due to people, noises, surroundings etc. Whatever it is, help children identify it and then figure out a way to remove them.

  10. Reward Systems: Children must be offered rewards for the successful completion of tasks within a time frame. It is a kind of reinforcement for positive behaviors that induce desired outcomes.

Creating a peaceful sleep environment:  Children with ADHD, will have difficulties in falling asleep, thus ease them into sleep with calm music, reading, muscle relaxation and also sticking onto a sleep routine and schedule. All these strategies can be easily implemented in your home atmosphere with the help of an occupational therapist.
