  2. Brain Injuries • The human brain is fragile. Scientists and doctors are just learning how fragile the brain truly is. Technologies are being developed that show microscopic damage that was previously undiagnosable. • Some brain injuries can lead to permanent impairment; other injuries can prove fatal. Any serious brain injury can drastically change the life of the person experiencing it, as well as the lives of his or her family and friends. • The brain can sustain damage in a variety of ways. Often, head injuries occur because of the negligence of others. The most common causes include car accidents, assaults, medical negligence during childbirth, and falls caused by dangerous conditions.

  3. Symptoms Of Brain Injury A brain injury can reveal itself in a wide variety of ways, some of them obvious and some not so obvious. Symptoms of brain injury can include: Headaches characterized by pain or pressure Dizziness or nausea Internal bleeding (hemorrhaging), which can lead to a sensation of pain or pressure in the head, or which may be detected only through a CT scan or other medical imaging Problems with memory or speech Loss of motor function and paralytic conditions such as paraplegia or quadriplegia Changes in behavior, mood or personality, which can include depression, irritability, mood swings, inattentiveness, loss of interest or change in affect (visible facial indicators of mood) Vision problems or noticeable changes in the pupils or other parts of the eye

The main parts of the brain are: The cerebral cortex, the broad outermost area of the brain, is involved in higher functions like decision making. It includes the occipital lobe, the parietal lobe, and the frontal and temporal lobes. The cerebellum, which plays a role in certain body movements. The brain stem, which helps control involuntary functions. The basal ganglia, a cluster of nerve tissue at the brain's core that is believed to aid in the coordination between different parts of the brain.
