The Inuit of the Arctic • The Inuit are one Native group that live in the Arctic. Traditionally most Inuit have lived along the coastal areas of that region.
Climate • Because of the climate there, shelter was very important. In winter temperatures drop well below -30 degrees Celsius. The Inuit used snow as a building material in the winter. They constructed domed snow houses called igloos.
Clothing • Inuit clothing was primarily made of Caribou skin. It was then lined with fur on the inside and outside in order to protect against the extreme cold.
The Inuit who lived inland hunted caribou and musk-ox. The coastal groups depended on sea mammals for their food such as seals, walruses and whales.
