  1. LIVINGSTONE ISOLATION GOWNS Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) pose a significant risk to patients during their hospital stay, impacting the quality of care and length of stay. This results in a staggering annual cost of $686 million to Australia's healthcare system. A study by Lydeamore et al. (2022) revealed that HAIs in Australia differ from European data, with a higher number of reports of bloodstream infections and healthcare-associated pneumonia. The financial burden of HAIs on the healthcare system is substantial, highlighting the urgent need for continued investment in HAI prevention measures such as personal protective equipment (PPE). The hands are the most susceptible to transmitting diseases from staff to patients and vice versa. To tackle this issue, Livingstone International has developed an innovative isolation gown design that provides enhanced protection to the wearer by reducing the potential for pathogen transmission. The thumb loop design allows the gown to extend to the base of the fingers, creating a seamless transition from the gloves to the gown. This lowers the risk of pathogens contaminating the wrist and lower arm when interacting with infected patients. Lydeamore, M, Mitchell, G, Bucknall, T. et al. 2. Correct personal protective equipment (PPE) usage is essential in minimising the spread of infections. Ensuring proper donning and doffing procedures is vital, as improper handling of PPE can lead to contamination and the transmission of pathogens. Donning involves carefully putting on PPE correctly to create a barrier between the healthcare worker and potential infections. At the same time, the doffing process requires removing PPE in a specific sequence to avoid self-contamination. Australian Hospital Safety and Quality Over the Years 2 In 2022–23: One or more Healthcare-acquired complications (HACs) were recorded in 115,000 hospitalisations in public hospitals (2.0% of hospitalisations), and 34,200 hospitalisations in private hospitals (0.8% of hospitalisations) The most recorded type of complication was Healthcare-associated infection (37%), followed by Delirium (13%) and Cardiac complications (12%). 2 Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2024, ‘Hospital Safety and Quality’, https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports- data/myhospitals/themes/hospital-safety-and-quality 2 livingstone.com.au 1300 883 733 sales@livingstone.com.au

  3. AAMI GOWN LEVELS The critical zones typically have four different areas that must pass. The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) requires protective apparel to pass ASTM F1670 and ASTM F1671 in all critical zones to classify as level 4 protection. Livingstone's Thumb Loop Isolation Gown meets AATCC 127 and ASTM F1670 and ASTM F1671 testing in critical zones A, C, and D, thus reaching Level 3 protection. SGS Australia tested Livingstone's thumb loop design, a leading third-party quality testing facility, to ensure the thumb loop gown complies with AAMI gown standards. The AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) standards are a set of guidelines and criteria designed to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of medical devices and healthcare equipment. These standards cover a broad range of healthcare practices, including the design, performance, and testing of medical devices, infection control, and sterilisation procedures. By adhering to AAMI standards, healthcare providers can ensure that their equipment meets rigorous safety and performance requirements, thereby enhancing patient care and reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections. The standards play a crucial role in maintaining high-quality care and safeguarding both patients and healthcare professionals.
