HOW TO CATCH SWORDFISH IN KEY WEST In Key West, you can catch both Striped and Spotted swordfish. The most common types of tackle used to catch these fish are fly fishing and casting. When fishing for swordfish, you’ll need a special type of fishing tackle. The best rods and reels are made for spearfishing, and the same goes for the best sponges and spinners. You’ll want a steady cast and line, which is why monofilament lines are best suited for this type of fishing.
