Who We Are • CCSS is a consortium of schools in the EUP, formed in 1971, to provide community education opportunities for local districts. • Pickford Public Schools is Fiscal Agent

Alternative Education • School of choice for students who find that their local community high school’s program or environment does not meet their needs. We strive to make a difference in the lives of our students by providing a positive, family like, structured learning environment. We help students acquire knowledge, practice effective planning skills, develop effective communication skills and seek community activism opportunities. Students are responsible for their own learning while working both collaboratively and independently. • 3 Locations • Newberry- 2 sites • Kinross • Cedarville • Students earn credit toward High School Diploma from local district
Preschool • Michigan School Readiness Program / Wee Wisdom (Pickford) • 5 Locations • Newberry, Brimley, Engadine, Paradise, Pickford • Utilize High Scope Curriculum
Enrichment • Winter Games • Swimming Lessons • Spelling Bee • Junior High Quiz • 6 & 7 Grade Camp • Youth Baseball • Adult Enrichment- EMT, aerobics, internet, first aid/CPR, computer courses • Youth Enrichment- Hunters Safety, ORV Safety, Boaters Safety, etc.
Michigan Works Administrator • WIA Youth • Low income and otherwise disadvantaged • WIA Adults • Dislocated Worker • Displaced Homemaker • Incumbent Worker • Employment Services • Services Provided in Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac Counties
Adult Education • Consortium Districts served along with Sault Ste. Marie, Engadine, and St. Ignace Districts • Locations- Newberry, Kincheloe, Sault Ste. Marie, Pickford, Bay Mills Community College, Engadine, Drummond Island, Strongs, St. Ignace, Chippewa and Mackinac County Jails • MI Works One Stop Centers in Sault Ste. Marie, Newberry, St. Ignace • High School Completion, ABE, and GED classes are available
Students Served • Many are known personally by staff • Population getting younger • Limited employment opportunities due to economic conditions and rural nature of the area

Trends • More GED and less Adult Diplomas • Younger Students • During the time most Adult Education programs have reduced services CCSS has expanded it’s roll in Adult Education. Programs opened in St. Ignace and Engadine along with partnerships with Sault Tribe and Bay Mills.
