  24. Hourly Rate Comparisons

  25. Accomplishments • First governmental Fleet in Florida and in the U.S to achieve non-generating status for hazardous waste. • Other governments have copied what we did, but very few have been able to maintain it.

  26. Accomplishments • Switched to red dyed diesel for on-road use – $180,000 savings • Lower hourly rate than outside vendors – Annual Savings $795,800 - $2,456,600 • Worked with Facilities staff to develop a “green building” by installing programmable thermostats, energy efficient light fixtures and motion activated light switches which reduced energy consumption by 5%.

  27. Accomplishments (cont.) • Continue to monitor and reduce the inventory in the parts room for a total in refunds and vendor credits of about $20,000 annually. • Provide joint EMS/Fleet Management training program for 194 new paramedics / EMTs. Training includes: proper maintenance of ambulance systems, Fleet procedures, and fueling of ambulances. • Developed hydrogen / distilled water technology program for use on diesel and unleaded vehicles.

  28. Accomplishments • Self supporting – if we don’t earn it, we can’t spend it; • Met with County Administration and private fleet outsourcing vendor – they couldn’t recommend anything that we weren’t already doing; • “First time that’s ever happened to us.” --Privatization vendor

  29. Major issues • NOX Emission standards - we currently meet 2010 standards • Ultra low sulfur diesel • Replacement Standards • Alternative Fuels - Bio-diesel? Hydrogen? Electric? Hybrids? • Technician Shortage (diesel) • In sourcing work from outside agencies • Fuel Pricing Volatility
