OVERVIEW • Among the ten students in the (JJWBSP) at Tsukuba University in 1995 among thousands • Enrolled for Master degree in Policy Management • Continued with PhD studies after successful completion
ACHIEVEMENTS • Great learning opportunity • Credible & renowned International Professors • Conducive learning environment • Experience sharing with fellow students • Time of the East Asian Miracle • East Asian Economic development model • Importance of strategic interventions • Great and unique opportunity of studying in Japan • Able to learn extensively about the socio-economic development of Japan and other East Asian Economies • Interaction with Japanese in different settings and getting first hand information about their socio-economic development path • Appreciation of the role of history and culture in socio-economic development • Sense of discipline, commitment and hard work
REALIZATION OF EXPECTATIONS • Realization of the objectives of the Scholarship • Returned with enhanced expertise and skills • Acquired knowledge to serve the Government and the public at large • Contributes to capacity building within and outside Tanzania • Sharing experience with fellow Tanzania and beyond Tanzania • Contributes to socio-economic development • As a Researcher/Consultant • Government official
REALIZATION OF EXPECTATIONS cont… • Researcher/Consultant • Carried out and coordinated a number of studies, which have informed a number of socio-economic processes including • Delivered a number of training, seminars and workshops on a number of subjects • Public service • Chief Executive Officer – Better Regulation Unit in the President's Office, Planning and Privatization • Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Planning, Economy and Empowerment • Permanent Secretary; Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing
APPRECIATION & CONCLUDING REMARKS • A very valuable Programme to socio economic Development • Outstanding results in most countries • It was not a smooth road BUT passable and worth the time spent • It is highly competitive especially for a lady (only two of us) • ALL IN ALL, the motto is believe in yourself and unleash your potential • Grateful to have this opportunity which enabled me to progress as a person, but more importantly to contribute greatly to the socio economic development of Tanzania as envisaged by the scholarship • I am highly indebted to • The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania; • The Joint Japan World Bank Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP); • Ministry of Education, Japan; • Mizuho International Foundation (former Fuji Ginko - Fuji Bank); • Professors and Fellow students at the University of Tsukuba, Japan; • The Japanese people For their great contribution in my carrier advancement, and • Last but not least, my beloved Family for enduring and being supportive
