That’s why the NDIS covers respite care for the disabled, their families and their carers. We’re here to help you utilise this much needed opportunity to refresh and reset, so everyone can lead happier lives. What is respite care? Respite care is an opportunity for both a person living with a disability and their families or carer to have a break. It involves temporary alternative care to take place while the usual care givers take some time away from their caring responsibilities. Why is respite care important? Carers and families endure emotional and physical demands on a day to day basis. Therefore, respite care may be necessary to ensure they take care of their own physical or mental health and stress levels. It can also be an opportunity to attend to their own personal lives, commitments or appointments. In addition to this, respite care also offers a change of scenery and time away from home for people living with a disability.
