Work Visas AttorneyWashington DC: A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. Temporary worker visas are for persons who want to enter the United States for employment lasting a fixed period of time, and are not considered permanent or indefinite. Each of these visas requires the prospective employer to first file a petition with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). An approved petition is required to apply for a work visa.

It is designed to allow U.S. • employers to recruit & employ foreign professionals in specialty • occupations within the USA for a specified period of time. • H-2A Visa: • An H2A visa is a temporary work visa for foreign agricultural workers • with a job offer for seasonal agricultural work in the US. • H-2B Visa: • The H-2B program allows U.S. employers or U.S. agents who mee • specific regulatory requirements to bring foreign nationals to the United • States to fill temporary nonagricultural jobs.

Type of US Work Visas: • H-3 Visa: • The H-3 visa is a nonimmigrant visa which allows foreign nationals to • enter the U.S. to receive training in a U.S. company. • H-4 Visas: • An H-4 visa is a visa issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration • Services (USCIS) to immediate family members (spouse and children • under 21 years of age) of the H-1B visa holders. • L-1 Visas: • An L-1 visa is a visa document used to enter the United States for the • purpose of work in L-1 status. It is a non-immigrant visa, and is valid for • a relatively short amount of time, from three months to five years.

Type of US Work Visas: • L-1 New Office Visas: • International companies planning to expand into the United States may • pursue L-1A visas for qualified managers and executives to transfer to • the U.S. to establish and work in a new U.S. office. • L-2 Visas: • An L-2 visa is a visa document used to enter the United States by the • dependent spouse and unmarried children under 21 years of age of • qualified L-1 visa holders. It is a non-immigrant visa, and is only valid • for the duration of the spouse's L1 visa.
