  3. What is a Sciatica? Sciatica is a condition of neuraligia wherein the pressure on the nerve triggers pain, tingling, numbness and weakness. Due to the irritation in the sciatica nerve, sciatica causes excruciating pain in the lower extremity. Also, the pain generated can be felt in the lower back and rear part of the thigh region that can spread to the lower end of knee.

  4. What are the causes? • Lumbar disc herniation • Radiculopathy • Pinched nerve from the disc • Irritation of the nerve from adjacent bone, tumors, muscle etc. • Internal bleeding • Infections in or around the lumbar spine • Injury • Pregnancy

  5. What are the Symptoms? • Pain, • A burning sensation • Numbness • Tingling radiating from the lower back and upper buttock down the back of the thigh to the back of the leg

  7. How is sciatica diagnosed? Screening examinations such as X-rays, CT scan, MRI scan and electromyogram  are employed to look for the symptoms.
