What’s What? • “Start Up Documents” contains all application process related materials, job announcements/descriptions for youth and adult staff, and more! • “Issues” contains issue briefs done by youth councils, and youth council efforts on a particular topic (outside of child and youth issues). What’s What? …Cont’d • “Policymaking 101” contains general information about the policymaking process, as well as, templates for tracking legislation. • “Funding” contains information related to acquiring funds for youth councils, including youth council appropriations bill language, grant applications, and grant scoring rubrics. © 2008 The Forum for Youth Investment. Subcategories • Many categories in the resource library are divided into a subcategories. • Example— • In the “Engaging Other Youth” category there are five subcategories: community youth mapping, survey results, surveys, voter outreach, and youth summits. © 2008 The Forum for Youth Investment.   19. Tagging! Location, Council Type • You will notice in the Resource Library that documents have been “tagged” by folder (refers to document category), location (city/county, state) and type (state, city, or county youth council). • Tagging enables you to search for information based on document type (e.g. application), location (e.g. San Francisco, CA), and youth council type (e.g. City, County, State). © 2008 The Forum for Youth Investment.   20. Searching… • In the upper right corner, under your username, you will see a magnifying glass icon and a search box. Example Of a Search • For instance, if you search “WA” information related to the Washington Legislative Youth Advisory Council and the Seattle, WA Youth Council appear. © 2008 The Forum for Youth Investment.   22. Instructions for Uploading • To add materials to the “Resource Library” enter the Resource Library and identify the appropriate folder/subfolder for your document. Go into that folder. • Note: If you cannot find an appropriate fit, update it to the main Resource Library page and an administrator will create an appropriate folder and move the document. © 2008 The Forum for Youth Investment.   23. Identify the Correct Folder From the proper folder, select “upload” and use the “browse” button to upload your file. After your file is uploaded you will be asked to “tag” it. Blog Accessing the Blog Blog Editor • Click “Youth Council Blog” in the left hand sidebar. • To make an entry, select “Create a post” from the list under “Admin links” • Click “Save As Draft” • Posts currently go to Admin for approval to be posted. • Upon approval, post will appear in the blog with your username as the author. © 2008 The Forum for Youth Investment. Recently Added Components… • “Recent Happenings & Project Updates” Discussion Board • Allows users to start new conversations, report on events that took place, and provide updates on various on-going projects. • This section was created as the result of feedback from the first test group of users.

  27. Respectful Use • “Toolkit Testers” want to build an understanding for respectful use of the Youth Councils Online Toolkit. • Formal rules seem unnecessary. • Primary toolkit uses: connecting with other youth council members, moving the work of individual councils and the network forward.
