Writer’s Workshop • Mini-lessons: focus on skills, what makes good writing • Write with choice: students choose what to write about much of the time. • Genre Studies • Poetry • Persuasive writing • Letters • Personal narrative • Essays • Reports • Scientific writing
Word Study • 12 Units consisting of: • Spelling lessons • Language and vocabulary lessons • Dictionary and thesaurus lessons • Units are done between September and May. The teacher decides when and how long for each unit. • A post-test is given, but the main focus is studying the spelling patterns and word usage.

Report Cards • Three Trimesters • Report card sent in December, March, and June • Rubric Scores: • 1 = Limited • 2 = Developing • 3 = Proficient • 4 = Exemplary
