Clean up
Wash hands with soap and water
Clean connections with alcohol
Scrap pieces are disposed
8. Component Placement Battery holder
Hot glued in place
9. Component layout Tactile Switch
Place above snap end of battery holder
The sides with connection pins should be parallel to the snap end of the battery holder
Insert the pins thru the holes in the perf board
The switch should sit flat on the perf board
10. Bend Pins of the Tactile Switch Use the wire cutter/stripper tool to bend opposite corner pins down flat to secure the switch in place
11. Buzzer placement Buzzer
Locate the dot on the top of the buzzer (Positive connection pin end),
Dot should face the switch,
Insert pins thru board,
With wire cutter/stripper tool bend pins slightly outward to hold buzzer to the board.
12. Cut Black wire to length Bend the black wire (negative lead from battery) around the negative pin on the buzzer, the far pin.
From the pin count 10 perf board holes.
Use the diagonal cutters and cut the wire at this point.
13. Cut Red wire to length Bend the red wire at the tactile switch pin closest to the battery snap end of the battery holder.
From the bend, count 10 perf board holes and cut the wire at this point.
14. Strip the ends of the wire Use the wire strip gauge measure apx. 3/8 or 10mm from the end of the wire
Set the wire at the measured length in the second notch for 22 gauge wire
Hold the cutter closed
Pull the wire back to remove the insulation
15. Inspect the insulation removal
16. Soldering Once the Iron is hot
Wipe the tip across the wet paper towel and sponge
Tin the Soldering iron tip by applying a small amount of solder to the end of the tip and allowing it to melt.
17. Prep the wire Twist the loose ends of the stranded wire so they lay flat together
Hold the wire just on the insulation with the clip of the third hand
Heat the wire with the solder iron
Touch the solder to the point where the iron and wire meet
The solder should melt
Pull back the solder and drag the tip of the iron to the end of the wire
18. Hook Connections Strip and tin the red and black wire from the battery and both ends of the cut off section of the red wire
Tinned wire can be bent in a hook to make a good mechanical connection on the pins
19. Connect the components Make a hook on the end of the black wire
Hook it around the far pin (negative pin) of the buzzer
Heat the pin and wire with the tip of the soldering iron and add a touch of solder at the same time. Hold the iron there for a second then pull the iron back.
20. Connect the Components Inspect the solder joint. The solder should have flowed smoothly, be slightly concave, and bright and shinny
If not, clean the iron tip and try again.
Connect the red battery lead to the switch pin we bent around earlier.
21. Connect the Components Connect and solder the short red wire between the positive pin on the buzzer and the other stand up end of the switch
Inspect all solder joints
22. Testing Insert the battery
Press the tactical switch. The buzzer should sound.
If not, recheck the polarity of the buzzer.
If the buzzer sounds when the battery is connected, check the switch connections are at opposite corners.
