  5. Shou Sugi Ban technique Shou Sugi Ban also known as Yakisugi is a centuries-old technique, which was initially founded by Japanese carpenters in the XVIIl century. In 1700 Japanese carpenters were charring "Japanese cedar" - known as "Sugi"- used for construction. Various houses' charred wood cladding and fences are built in Western Japan, where this technique was viral, due to its remarkable durability. At its core, Shou sugi ban involves carefully burning the surface of the wood with a flame until it turns black. The charred layer then acts as a protective barrier against moisture and insects, making the wood more durable and longer-lasting. In addition to its functional benefits, Shou sugi ban also creates a unique and striking visual effect that adds character and texture to any space.
